Meets Rules and Regulations

I'm sorry that we have to have these rules ... I hate rules! However, the club actually makes a large loss on meets, and tries to redeem that loss through fundraising and sponsorship. The average weekend meet actually costs about £33 per person, assuming that there are no empty spaces in the minibus.

It's hard work raising the money to keep meets cheap, so in order to try and make sure that there are never any empty spaces on the bus, we have to impose the following boring rules ... it's like being back at school ... sorry!

For all club trips, the only legitimate way to sign up, is to do it manually (that is, not with the aid of any automated script or process) and personally (that is, not sharing your username or password with others so that they may do it for you). Persons found to be breaching this rule can, at the discretion of the committee, be excluded from club trips for up to one month.

Weekend Meets

  1. To sign up for a meet you must be a member of the club, and you need to set up an account on the club website (except for the fresher's meets). This will allow you to sign-up online. Once signed up for a meet, to confirm your place you must put a cheque for the full amount, payable to Southampton University Mountaineering Club, in the club pigeonhole in the AU office (bottom floor of the Union Building). Anyone who has not paid by the Wednesday morning before the meet will be removed from the list, and their space will be made available to someone else.

  2. If you change your mind and are unable to come, you must sign into your account on the website and remove yourself from the list as soon as possible. This will allow time for someone else to gleefully grab your place.

  3. Anyone who doesnt remove themselves from the list in good time, and then doesn't turn up for the meet will still have to pay the full amount, except in exceptional circumstances. It seems unfair, but the club literally cannot afford empty spaces. In addition, they will receive a 'Yellow Card', will be spanked with birch twigs, and will probably be glared at by me in a disapproving manner ... Buy me a pint and I may forget about it, but do it again in one term and you will get a 'Red Card!' In addition to another thoroughly good spanking, and after that some ... ahem. Sorry. Where was I. Yes, your Red Card might well ban you from going on any club trips for up to a month.

  4. Meets leave from outside the Union Shop at 5:30pm on Friday. Be there on time, or risk being left behind!

Calshot

  1. To sign up for Calshot you must be a member of the club, and you need to set up an account on the club website. This will allow you to sign up online when I make the event available for booking.

  2. If you change your mind and are unable to come, you must sign into your account on the website and remove yourself from the list as soon as possible. This will allow time for others to take your place.

  3. Anyone who doesnt remove themselves from the list in good time, and then doesnt turn up, will get a 'Yellow Card', will encur my wrath, will be slapped around the face with a wet fish, and will be banned from going on any club trips until I have stopped steaming. Buying me a pint at the next social usually helps cool me down! If you do it twice during one term, then you will get a 'Red Card!' In addition to being force-fed rotten fish whilst being prodded with pointy things, you'll be called nasty names, and may possibly have Ni shouted at you by and old woman. Oh, and you are liable to be banned from going on any club trips for up to a month!

  4. The bus for Calshot leaves from outside the Union shop at 17:50 every Thursday. Be there on time, or risk being left behind!
